It’s been 30 years since Jonestown. I recall it happening when i was a child, have read several accounts of it over the years, and watched a couple of documentaries too, but I’d never listened to this 45 minute recording made in Jonestown right before the massacre..
I can’t say I enjoyed listening to it. I didn’t. But I do think it’s worth checking out. It’s hard if not impossible to fathom the surreal nature of what transpired on that fateful day - November 18, 1978. But listening to the recording brought an element of reality to it, that hadn’t existed before, at least not in my mind. And has maybe helped me bridge some of the gap between the surreal and real nature of the terrible tragedy..
