a music exchange & LIVE weekly internet stream..
Yes, it’s Halloween and no doubt many of you have plans to head out and celebrate this evening, but once you return home from the festivities please join me for a special noisefromthevoid. I may start later than usual due to my own committments, but once I’m up and running I’ll be aiming to wake the dead with a wicked selection of dark, haunting and spooky musical tricks & treats..

Hey Folks,
join me this week with special guest - Santa Cruz’s own Lil’ John. From his roots in the world of the Grateful Dead, through to the 90’s raves, and on to the current Burning Man inspired party scene John has managed to infuse his own subtley psychedelic vibe into the Bay Area’s unconventional musical history. He’s not only an accomplished dj, but a tireless and dedicated promoter for the wild and colorful Raindance and Freakers Ball parties, and one of the friendliest people I know..
And so in anticipation of the upcoming Freakers Ball this Saturday and all the rest of the Halloween festivities join us for the Disco of the Dead - 2nite 9pm ’til very late..

join me this week folks, as I enter the void and tentatively search for a mysterious and elusive genre of music - cosmic punk. I’ll be setting aside the first part of the show to explore this potential musical paradox, and though I don’t yet know where I’ll end up, I expect I’ll be pulling out a few oddities and absurdities along with some post-punk and new wave gems, some anti-establishment spacerock, and some trippier cuts from the more contemporary disco-punk and indie dance music scenes..

This track may not be my favorite house cut of all time, but it gets pretty damn close..
It was originally released in 1989 as part of a 4 track e.p. by M.E. (aka Mervyn Sanders & Eric Lewis) on the Chicago based Trax label. A sublime piece of early Chicago deep house, it’s sound is spaced out, timeless and unforgettable..

this is for all those friends of mine who rocked out this weekend, and are now suffering the infamous Tuesday blues..

Alright folks, it’s been a crazy weekend, what with the Summer Music Conference an’ all. Come-unity on Friday was of course the highlight for me, but due to the chaotic nature of the night, and the short sets I was left with the feeling I didn’t get to drop enough acid into the mix. No, not the lysergic kind, I mean the dance music kind. So to make up for it - 2 hours of this week’s show will be devoted to spinning some of the records that didn’t find their way into my Friday night set, along with some that are just so damn tripped out I can’t resist throwing them in as well! Once that’s out of my system stay with me as I continue on late into the night exploring and illuminating the infinite musical void..

People often ask me what my favorite track ever is. It’s one of those questions that you’re kinda stuck with if you spin records for a living - whether you want it or not - so you’d imagine by now I’d have figured out an answer. I mean it can’t be that difficult, can it? You’d think not, but it seems everytime I’m cornered in the dark recesses of some late night basement/loft party and asked the dreaded question, I find myself totally and completely stumped. Of course it might have something to do with the ridiculously huge quantity of music I own, have owned, or have listenened to over the years. I mean - how could you pick one favorite out of all those great trax?
Well, quite randomly and spontaneously, after 20 years of djing, a mini-miracle seems to have occurred. No, I haven’t come up with my favorite track ever (that would be a full-blown miracle) but I have without trying realised I now have a favorite HOUSE track. Of course I’m forced to ask myself “why now?”, so suddenly, so unexpectedly? Well, I’ll be damned if I know, it’s a complete mystery to me, but it’s happened so I’m going to share it with y’all before I go and change my mind. And be warned I change my mind more often than I change my socks..
So anyways, here you are - it’s the B-side of “Can You Feel It”, the seminal 1986 Trax release by Mr Fingers aka Larry Heard. I picked it up 2 years after it’s release, and still play my original copy to this day. It’s one of the most understated yet evocative grooves I own, and sends me off into daydreaming bliss with it’s robotic groove, video game-esque synth sounds, and cold melancholy strings. Trax have been re-issuing the best of their back catalogue recently so it’s not hard to come by should you decide you absolutely must have a copy of this hypnotic vinyl treasure..
Garth & Jeno are back with another spontaneous, cheeky and downright fun exploration of their record collections..
